Kaitlyn, over at I Stand Redeemed, tagged me for this meme:
The Rules of the game are as follows:
Link to the person who tagged you.
Post the rules on your blog.
Write Six Random Things about yourself.
“Tag” six-or-so other people at the bottom of your post…
…And leave comments on their blogs, letting them know they’ve been tagged.
Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve written the post.
Okay, six random things about me:
1. I'm allergic to milk, but not ice cream
2. I'm a pack rat. A bad one. I have toys and clothes from when I was two and collections galore.
3. I love anything classic -- classic movies, classic books, classic music. If it's old, antique, or filmed in black and white, I usually like it. :)
4. I take WAY too many pictures (this one is inspired from having to upload about 400 to Walgreens last night)
5. I have to know how to make everything from quilts to cakes. If I see a new craft on a show, I'm not satisfied until I give it a try.
6. I'm not very neat. I try, but I do not succeed. It probably has something to do with a dozen projects going on at once.
Hmmm, I think pretty much all the blogs I read are already tagged. If you're reading, and you haven't been, consider yourself tagged!

I've been tagged!!!
Kaitlyn Michele tagged me for this fun meme about authors!! I had so much fun reading her answers. Now, I'm going to have to think hard.......
Who is your all-time favorite author and why?
That is such a hard one. I love so many authors. I think I have to say Charles Dickens is my favorite author. His stories can sometimes be sad, but I love the intricate plots, the complicated characters, the historical context, and the bittersweet realities of life that his stories combine.
Who was your first favorite author and why? Do you still consider him/her to be among your favorites?
No contest. Laura Ingalls Wilder was my very favorite author for years. I've probably read the entire Little House series twenty times. Laura seemed so much like me, even though she lived 150 years ago in a little log cabin on the prairie. She is definitely still among my favorite authors.
Who is the most recent addition to your list of favorite authors, and why?
I'm a little torn here. Technically, it should be Wilkie Collins, because I just read The Woman in White and thought it was fabulous, but since I haven't read any of his other works, I can't count him as my newest favorite author. Elizabeth Gaskell fits here, I think. I first read Wives and Daughters last year, and since then have read several of her other works. They are all so good. She is definitely on my list of favorites forever.
If someone asked you who your favorite authors were right now, which authors would first pop out of your mouth?
Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Charlotte Bronte, Sir Walter Scott
Most of the bloggers I read have been tagged already, so I can only tag one blog:

I'm Tagged!! :)
Elizabeth tagged me for this meme, which is really fun because I haven't been tagged for a meme before! The rules are:
(1) Link to the person that tagged you. (2) Post the rules on your blog. (3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. (4) Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs. (5) Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.
1. I always peel apples before I eat them.
2. When I paint or draw, I always "blend" with my fingers. Even though I have an assortment of supplies made for the purpose right beside me, I find my fingers work best. My art teacher thought that was kind of odd. :)
3. Whenever I'm thinking really hard, I tug on a specific curl of my hair on the left side of my head.
4. I cannot carry a tune -- at all.
5. My favorite color combination is anything with white -- black and white, red and white, blue and white, pink and white....you get the idea. That's why a lot of my clothes are those colors.
6. I have never been able to grow my fingernails out. Either I had to keep them short to play the piano or they broke off on their own. No nail polish collection for me!
So, these are my non-important charcteristics and weird quirks. I tag Lizzy Christine and Tiffany. Yes, I know it's not six people.

Color Seasons
A message board that I read started an interesting discussion about the book Color Me Beautiful this week. Well, it's interesting if you find things like color palettes interesting. :) The idea of this book is that taking a person's complexion, hair color, and eye color into consideration, you can classify them into one of four seasons -- Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter -- with their own unique palette of colors that they look best in. Spring has light, bright colors like citruses and corals, Summer has soft pastels and blues, Autumn has earth-tones with oranges and browns, and Winter has vivid, bright colors and black.
I read this book when I was about twelve and used to follow "my colors" to the letter. I mix things up a little bit now, but I still stay in the basic outline of my color palette. Because I am a Winter, I only wear "cool" colors with a blue undertone, but I do wear a few Summer colors now, especially light blue. I also like chocolate brown a lot, but I never wear tan or orange.
This is a really good book to use as a guideline when you go shopping. There are even some good make-up tips in it, but take into consideration that the book was written in the early nineties, so some of the make-up is a little outdated. Even though it's the recommended color for Winters, magenta lipstick just isn't a good thing anymore! So, I can use the tips that pink tones are best for my blush and lipstick, but in more natural colors. Here is a quiz to see which season you are. Some of the questions seemed stupid to me, but the result was Winter, so maybe it works!

Christmas Meme
Here's a fun Christmas meme:
Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper. Gift bags can be really cute, but they aren't as much fun to open!
Real tree or artificial? We've done both. We had an artificial tree for about ten years, but this year we got a real one and I like it a lot. It smells so good!
When do you put up the tree? About a week after Thanksgiving
When do you take the tree down? Usually around New Year's
Favorite holiday theme? Victorian Christmas! I love pink, lacy ornaments
Favorite gift received as a child? My Samantha American Girl doll. I wanted her for years and my parents surprised me with her for Christmas when I was eight.
Do you have a nativity scene? Yes! I picked it out when I was about five and we still put it up every year.
Hardest person to buy for? Definitely my mom
Easiest person to buy for? My sister is pretty easy to shop for
Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Hmmm....I've gotten some clothes I didn't care for before, but I don't think that falls under "worst present ever"
Mail or email cards? Mail cards! Sometimes I send emails, too, but always mail cards!
Favorite Christmas movie? It's A Wonderful Life (this is waiting for me at the library right now!) and A Christmas Carol
When do you start shopping for Christmas? First week of December. It just doesn't feel like I'm shopping for Christmas any earlier.
Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Never
Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Everything? :) No, my favorite is those chocolate oranges that you whack on the table and they fall apart into segments like a real orange. I get a dark chocolate one in my stocking every year.
White lights or colored on the tree? Colored lights.
Favorite Christmas song? Now that's just too hard. Top Five: O Holy Night, Mary Did You Know?, Hark The Herald Angels Sing, Silver Bells, Sleighride
Travel for Christmas or stay at home? Complicated. Now, we stay home. Used to, we traveled 600 miles to our hometown. When we still lived there, we split the day in half between my mom's family and my dad's family
Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen.....Rudolph!
Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel. I can never find a star I really like.
Open the presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? My sister and I open our presents to each other on Christmas Eve. Everything else is for Christmas!!!!
Most annoying thing about this time of year? traffic. TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC!!!!
What I love most about Christmas? I love the decorations, the lights, the music, but most of all I love the celebration that Jesus Christ was born. "And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord"

Christmas Shopping
Thursday, my sister and I went out on our annual all-day shopping trip. We've done this for a few years now. We go shopping, mainly for our parents, but for other family members, each other, and our dog, too. Last year was a NIGHTMARE!!! I can't even describe how bad the traffic was and it was just a middle-of-the-week shopping day. The best way I can think of to give you an idea of what it was like is this tiny fraction of the day: it took 45 minutes to get from the stoplight in front of the mall to the parking lot at the back of the mall and another 30 minutes to find a parking space!!! When we got inside the mall, things didn't get any better. We had no idea what we wanted to buy anyone. You would think in such a huge mall we could have easily found something, but we ended up walking up and down the mall, through store after store, until we finally settled on presents for our parents.
This year was better by 1000%. There was hardly any traffic at all and we had previously decided on everything we were going to buy. Of course, we changed our minds about my mom's present when we saw something we liked better, but we had a general idea in mind and that kept us on track. My dad's present was actually the most difficult. We knew what we wanted to get him, but we couldn't find it anywhere. Still, looking for it wasn't even a problem because there was no traffic, no crowds of people, and we were finally able to locate and purchase it. We bought Princess a fluffy, pretty dog bed at Target. I had an idea in mind for what I was going to get my sister, but after shopping, I have a better idea. Now I need to go shopping without her so I can buy it! :) Toward the end of the day, we got a burger and one of our favorite milkshakes. Gabrielle likes an orange flavored one. Me? I go for the double chocolate fudge sundae milkshake. It is a chocolate shake, layered with fudge sauce, and topped with mini chocolate chips, whipped cream and a cherry. Talk about delicious!! Don't think about the calories. :)

It Never Fails.......
No matter how many times I take a Jane Austen character quiz or how many different quizzes I take, the result is the same: Marianne Dashwood. Not that I'm complaining -- Marianne is actually my favorite Austen character -- I just think it's funny. I think I am a lot more practical than Marianne is. But, since every single time I take an Austen quiz the result says that I am Marianne, it must somewhat accurate. :)

Food Fun
Here's a fun little game different bloggers have been sending to each other this week. You're supposed to take each letter of your name and write a food related factoid that starts with that letter. Let's see:
M -- I don't really care for macaroni and cheese. I know everybody is supposed to love it, but I just never have. Sometimes my mom makes baked mac and cheese and I like that pretty well, but I just don't like the regular cheesy stuff.
A -- I love apple pie. It's one of my favorite types of pie. I want to find a recipe and try to make one for Christmas this year.
N -- Nachos are great. Mexican food is my favorite, anyway.
D -- Dr. Pepper is the best soft drink ever. Does that count as food? I think so.
Y -- Yogurt has never been my favorite thing. You know, the kind in the little containers at the grocery store? The only way I like it is with granola and fruit. I do like frozen yogurt pretty well, but I prefer ice cream. :)
I had some tough letters in my name! How many types of food can you think of that start with "Y" or "D"?
